With the annually growing number of new foreign and domestic exhibitors, this event promotes introduction of contemporary technologies, innovative solutions, and exchange of experience.
It is not by mere chance that thousands of public healthcare workers and specialists from healthcare-related industries attend this professional forum year after year. During its four days, the exhibition was visited by about 6,000 professionals. And this time as well there unfailingly was quite a lot to look at. The jubilee anniversary exhibition was hosted on 6,000 square metres of Pavilion 11 of the Atakent Exhibition Centre. The exposition featured equipment, medical preparations, services, etc by more than 200 companies from 21 countries: Armenia, Belarus, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, South Korea, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, US, and Uzbekistan. Companies from Pakistan participated in KIHE for the first time.
It is worthy of being noted that the share of domestic exhibitors at KIHE has grown dozens of times over the past 15 years. While there were only 4 Kazakhstan companies taking part in the first exhibition, today their number over 70 (or 37% of the total number of exhibitors).
Larisa KUZNETSOVA, Head of the Pharmaceutical Provision Office, Almaty City Healthcare Department, said at the exhibition press conference: “All healthcare system workers wait for KIHE. This is, first of all, due to the fact that, at this exhibition many chief doctors and heads of medical institutions have an opportunity not only to get familiarised with the latest technologies, equipment and innovations from other countries but also buy them for their hospitals and clinics. This is a great achievement, all the more so if you recall the first KIHE in 1994. At that time, hard enough for our medicine, we could not even imagine that we will once be able to use such diagnostic equipment or apply pharmaceuticals brought to Kazakhstan by foreign companies. Now the situation has changed completely.”
As is well known, the medical technologies market is one of the most innovative and rapidly developing ones. Its level reflects both the status of economy and the well-being of population and the scientific, human potential of the country, as well as the scale of social programmes.
Over the past few years, the public healthcare system in Kazakhstan has undergone organisational and structural changes, and, most importantly, budget healthcare allocations have been increased. This made it possible to retrofit the country’s medical institutions and to considerably raise healthcare workers’ salaries. Annually, about 30 billion tenge are earmarked to purchase medical equipment under the state public healthcare reform programme. The total healthcare allocations provided for in the 2008 Kazakhstan budget make up 144.4 billion tenge, or 0.9% of the GDP.
The country develops and introduces a medical cluster, creates dispensaries, clinics and hospitals equipped with the latest equipment designed to diagnose and cure oncologic patients and other critical cases. The state pays close attention now to the development of the public healthcare system. At the same time, the progress goes on, and that is why the opportunities to share experience provided by this international exhibition can hardly be overestimated.
In this connection need to note that the exhibition featured developments by companies from Russia and other CIS countries (one third of the KIHE exhibitors). Vadim VERZHBITSKIY, Deputy Head of the Trade Mission of Russia in Kazakhstan, assigned the inclination of Russian businesses to form a production basis in Kazakhstan continuing vigorous activity on the Central Asian markets. Mr. Verzhbitskiy noted that the latest technologies imported have already managed to make a positive contribution to the medical care development not only in Almaty and Astana but also in remote areas of the vast spaces of Kazakhstan. And this is not the limit for Russians, as the Deputy Head of the Trade Mission considers “regional markets highly promising”.
The international pharmaceutical and medical market is traditionally represented by a great number of German companies – there were 29 companies at the exhibition. According to Julia GROSS, Acting General Consul of Germany in Kazakhstan, this year Germany was again represented with a joint stand. Speaking at the exhibition opening ceremony, Ms. Gross explained the FRG companies’ activity as follows: “Equipment manufacturers in Germany show great interest in international markets; that is why many manufacturers availed themselves of KIHE as ‘an entry gate’ to Kazakhstan.” Besides, she said, Almaty is known as a scientific research centre and there are ample opportunities for professional communication.
Please be reminded that since 2006 the international level of holding the exhibition has been confirmed by the certificate of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI, www.ufinet.org).
The event was organised by Iteca, an exhibition company of Kazakhstan, in co-operation with its international partners: ITE Group Plc (UK), GIMA (Germany), PrimExpo (Russia), EUF A.S. (Turkey), and ITE China (China).
