KIHE 2012 Fact File

KIHE was held in Almaty for its 19th time.
Gross total space – 7450 meters, net total – 7000 meters.

Number of exhibitors – 209 companies from 22 countries. Bangladesh and Malaysia participated in the exhibition for the first time. In comparison with KIHE 2011 this year exhibition was increased by 35%. Traditionally, Kazakhstan companies accounted for almost half of the exhibition – 40% of all exhibitors. Other widely presented companies included Germany (12%), Russia (20%), China (7%), Malaysia (3%) and Turkey (3%).

Ministry for Economic Affairs of Bavaria, Chinese and Turkish, Czech companies, Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council were presented with their national groups at the event. Collective participation was arranged by the Nizhniy Novgorod Administration (Russia).

Kazakhstan. Country Overview

Republic of Kazakhstan possesses a wide range of mineral resources with significant oil and gas reserves, which rank the Republic as one of the largest oil producers in the world.

Kazakhstan was the first country of CIS which obtained investment country rating from the leading rating agencies - "Moody’s Investors Service", "Standard & Poor’s" and "Fitch Rating’s Ltd". All ratings are presented with «ВВВ+» level and specified as «stable».

By the beginning of April 2012 gold holdings of Kazakhstan, including those of National Bank and National Republican Fund amounted to $ 86 billion. Meanwhile, according to tentative data, cash assets of National Republican Fund amounted to $ 51 billion.

Medical Market Overview

299,5 billion tenge are provided for the Kazakhstan healthcare sector in the Republican budget in 2009, 411,6 billion tenge in 2010 and 631 billion tenge in 2011. 1 trillion 315 billion tenge is provided for the Kazakhstan healthcare sector in the Republican budget for 3 years. Annually Government invests 25-30 billion tenge for purchase of medical equipment. Government is the principal customer of medicines on the market. 3,6 billion tenge were given for medicines purchasing from the Republican budget in 2011. In comparison with 2010, total purchase amount was 70 billion tenge.

According to the 1st of January 2012 data, 773 hospitals and 2163 short-stay clinics operate in the Republic. 25 emergency stations and 277 casualty departments lend their assistance to the population. On the results of the first quarterly figures of 2012 data, State authorities forecast that hospital accommodation capacity reaches 102 831.

According to 2012 data there are 52 603 doctors and 130 461 medical personnel practise in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Governtment Regulation of Medical Sector

The government owns 80 % of medical institutions in Kazakhstan, thus the government plays a significant role in medical issues.

Following its appointment as a WTO member, Kazakhstan has brought its local medical regulations in line with international standards.

The Kazakhstan Legislation Institute has just completed a draft of the Kazakhstan Healthcare Code which came into force from the 1st of January 2009. The Unified National Healthcare System was implemented from the 1st of January 2010.

State healthcare programme of the country - Саламатты Қазақстан- over the period 2011-2015:

  • measures for industry adaptation to market relations;
  • increasing efficiency of intersegmental and interdepartmental cooperation with the emphasis to strengthening of prophylactic activities;
  • motivation to healthy life style;
  • strengthening of joint population responsibility for own health;
  • development of quality domestic pharmaceuticals manufacturing and rise of its accessibility to population;
  • besides of advisory diagnostic “Densaulyk” and “Zherdem” trains, “Salamatty Kazakhstan” third train has been started from 2011 year;
  • holding of telemedical consultations with the leading foreign clinics;
  • further development of the Unified National Healthcare System;
  • forming and development of “e-healthcare”, etc.

General costs for Programme implementation from the state budget is amounted 359 358,9 million tenge.

Address by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to the People of Kazakhstan “Socio-Economic Modernization as Main Vector of Development of Kazakhstan”:

  • acceptance and development of the Cancer care facilities Programme over the period 2012-2016;
  • improvement in the quality of public services, promotion of the healthy life-style;
  • development of the preventive service;
  • improvement of diagnostic system and treatment;
  • improvement of rehabilitation service;
  • forming of the civil liability for its health and etc.

"A hundred medical facilities" Program

In message to the people of Kazakhstan, the President of the Republic assigned to Government to launch a programme of «Building a hundred medical facilities on the base of state-private partnership». This project includes 103 objects and its realization is planned in the course of 3 years. In whole over a 70 billion tenge were built into the budget for construction and renewal of public health projects in 2009.

45 billion tenge were provided for «A hundred medical facilities» Programme. 99 local significance projects and 4 republican significance projects are put into operation in 2007-2012. 248 billion tenge were provided for the Programme implementing in 2010-2012. This program was approved by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and its main measures are:

  • by 2015 public health expenditure will increase to 7% GDP;
  • creation of unified healthcare information system;
  • hospitals, clinics and laboratories construction and facilities; development of medical science;
  • production growth of native competitive pharmaceutical and medical products;
  • investment opportunities procurement of healthcare sector for private companies;
  • health manpower training and retraining.

The Pharmaceutical Market

The Kazakhstan pharmaceutical market size overdrew $ 1 billion in 2008 and growth trend is 15-20%. Over 10 000 pharmaceuticals are currently registered in Kazakhstan, representations from 100 countries are working in the Republic. Local production makes up 12% of the total pharmaceutical market.

Unitary system of medicine distribution project is put into operation in 2009 and it made possible to reduce medicine costs and buy it directly to producer.

By 2012 it is planning to create an effective infrastructure and give attention to the transport and logistic system development.

Medical Equipment Market

The medical equipment market in Kazakhstan has increased rapidly in size over the last few years. Nevertheless, the market still strongly depends on the import of medical equipment, which makes up 90 % of its total capacity.

According to industry analysts, the high-priority sectors for investment within the sphere of medical equipment are:

  • Diagnostic equipment
